Warner Farm is hiring for the 2016 season!

Warner Farm is a 10th generation diversified small fruit and vegetable farm located in Sunderland, Ma. We grow over 150 acres of both IPM (125 ac.) and certified organic (25 ac.) crops for wholesale throughout the Pioneer Valley as well as operate a 300-member CSA and attend farmers markets in Eastern Massachusetts. In the fall, Warner Farm is also home to Mike’s Maze, the Pioneer Valley’s world famous corn maze, and Zombie Night Patrol, our premier haunted paintball attraction. Farm Sale & Marketing Manager

Job Description: This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the sales and marketing components of the farm business while promoting a positive image of Warner Farm to staff and customers. This includes our existing 50+ wholesale accounts, ranging from restaurants to national grocery chains, our 425-member CSA program, and 2 farmer’s markets. The manager is responsible for all administrative and customer service components of these three important aspects of our business. This includes managing wholesale accounts by coordinating daily orders, overseeing the production of weekly CSA shares for the 20-week season, coordinating our late fall bulk share drop off, and managing the produce sold through 2 farmer’s markets. This key manager is responsible for communicating directly with the public to ensure customer satisfaction with respect to all aspects of our farm business from produce sales to agritainment. This position reports to the CSA & Organic General Manager.

 Duties include: communicating with wholesale customers to ensure orders are timely and accurate; establishing availability lists; communicating with farmers and distributing lists to customers on a weekly basis; compiling orders and creating invoices daily; coordinating daily harvests with crew leaders and other farm management; coordinating daily deliveries and pick-ups; managing, tracking, and overseeing the distribution of all CSA shares and add-ons (fruit, eggs, and flowers); directly overseeing the Packing Coordinator and CSA/market staff (4-5 people), developing schedules for farmer’s market staff; coordinating with the Farm General Managers to develop the weekly share list; managing and communicating with our CSA membership base using Small Farm Central and MailChimp; helping to coordinate harvests with other farm management to ensure shares are accurate and cost effective; answering questions and emails from CSA members in a timely and courteous manner; coordinating and overseeing the one-time bulk fall share drop off; tracking overall CSA budget including expenses and income and providing end-of-year summary; answering general questions from the public about all aspects of Warner Farm; and coordinating with other farm management to ensure the completion of necessary daily tasks. Flexibility, cooperation, and a team approach are essential in the completion of all duties.

Requirements: 

  • 2 years experience in customer service
  • 2 years management/supervisory experience
  • 2 years sales and/or marketing experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, MailChimp, and Quickbooks
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and be flexible
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude

Preferred:

  • Previous farm experience
  • Ability to lift 40 lb.
  • Ability to operate a pallet jack
  • Commitment to small, family-owned business and/or farm business
  • Interest in long-term, full-season employment

This is a year-round position requiring up to 60 hours per week during the height of the season (May-October) and decreasing to 10-20 hours a week during the winter. $14-15/hr access to fresh veggies and passes to Mike's Maze. To apply, please email a cover letter and resume to david@warnerfarm.com. Packing Shed Coordinator

 Job Description: This position is responsible for coordinating the washing, packing, and storage activities of our farm business. This includes produce being prepared for wholesale, for our 425-member CSA program, and for the two farmers markets we participate in. This position is also responsible for providing general support to the Sales & Marketing Manager around overseeing CSA and market staff, and ensuring the completion of tasks. During the fall, this position will also be responsible for the completion of general tasks related to the farm’s argitourism business. This position may involve some basic tractor work and filling in with other assorted farm tasks as needed. This position reports directly to the Sales & Marketing Manager.

Duties include: Managing crop washing and packing to ensure a high level of produce quality; effectively managing a packing house crew of 3-4 people; managing produce inventory to ensure the sale of fresh produce, maintaining and cleaning vegetable washing equipment, packing house, and cooler in order to present the farm in a professional manner and ensure adherence to Commonwealth Quality standards; coordinating daily harvests with crew leaders and other farm management; filling daily wholesale orders to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction; coordinating daily deliveries and making deliveries as needed; coordinating packing of CSA shares twice a week (425 shares total); assisting in scheduling and managing CSA and market staff (3-4 people); attending markets as needed; attending CSA pick-ups as needed; communicating share list, recipes, reminders, and information to CSA members through a weekly newsletter; and coordinating with other farm management to ensure the completion of necessary daily tasks. Fall agritourism task may include but are not limited to setup and maintenance of maze attractions; assisting in private group tours; and clean up after events. Flexibility, cooperation, and a team approach are essential in the completion of all duties.

  • 1-2 years previous farm experience

  • Ability to operate a pallet jack
  • Experience managing or supervising staff

This is a seasonal position running from May-October requiring up to 60 hours per week during the height of the season (June-August). Farm Market and CSA Staff

Job Description: Warner Farm is seeking individuals to help staff farmer’s markets and CSA distributions. We attend 3 weekly farmer’s markets located in Amherst, Winchester and Watertown as well as manage 4 different drop-off sites for our 300-member CSA program. Market staff is responsible for communicating directly with the public and must be comfortable regularly interacting with the public. While market and CSA drop off days can be demanding, sometimes requiring 10-hour days, management does its best to ensure time off in between long days. Market and CSA Staff report directly to the CSA and Market Manager.

Duties include:  arriving promptly to load trucks for markets; filling out market logs accurately; driving to, setting up, and breaking down market displays; creating an attractive produce display; facilitating sales; answering customer questions about our farm and produce; attending weekly CSA drop off in the greater Boston area; attend weekly check-in meetings with management; provide management with feedback regarding markets and drop-offs; all duties are to be preformed in a manner to promote a positive image of Warner Farm and ensure customer satisfaction.

 Requirements

  • 1-2 years customer service experience
  • Outgoing personality
  • Positive and hard-working attitude
  • Ability to drive 16 ft box truck
  • Ability to lift 40 lb. 

 Preferred skills:

  • Previous farm experience
  • Previous retail experience
  • Interest in cooking and fresh food
